Dear editor,
Who is Europe's best pinball player? That is what it's all about at the European Pinball Championship (EPC), which is to be held over the weekend of May 21st and 22nd at Silverstone, Weerenweg 21-23 in Zwanenburg, the Netherlands. The ex-world champion from Groningen will be there, as well as 160 other competition players from all over Europe.
Pinball as a sport is becoming increasingly popular. Like darts and pool, pinball has gone from being played for fun in bars to being a sport with its own tournaments and competitions. The most recent European Championship was held in 1997 when a Frenchman won the title of Europe's best pinball player.
In January the Dutch Pinball Association, which with over 1,100 members is the largest pinball association in Europe, took the initiative for the organisation of the EPC. On Saturday May 21st eight national teams will compete against each other, which is followed on Sunday by the finals of the individual competition. In those games, the players will demonstrate that pinball is so much more than keeping the ball in play. Stamina, understanding of the rules and nerves of steel are needed if you want to get to the top. So it is not surprising that the four players of the Dutch national team spend many hours at their machines every week. Sunday 22nd, the day after the national teams competition, is the day of the competition for individual players, for which 160 people from ten different countries have already entered. More than a hundred pinball machines will be set up for the competition in several of the rooms of the Silverstone building.
With this press release we invite you to visit the European Pinball Championship. If you want to do an article on the EPC or on pinball in general prior to the event, we can put you in touch with players near you. And finally, let's not forget that active member and great pinball lover, our Minister of Finance Gerrit Zalm, who said: "Of course pinball is a sport, a professional sport even, or else I would have been a pinball champion myself".
